Origin of technology invention
It is not easy for one to make an invention in this world. There are lots of inventions that have been made throughout history but still do not receive the credit they deserve for their creation. The inventions of the past have left a mark on the technological scene and the current ones can also be said to have left a mark on it.
In today’s time, there has been many innovations in technology which did not even get noticed in the beginning itself. These can be divided into categories like scientific discoveries, technological innovations, and most importantly scientific inventions. When the inventions of these technologies are brought to the world and discussed with people, some may find that they have come up with something better than what has been invented yet. But, in fact, scientists have come up with more advanced and innovative inventions and have managed to reach almost every corner of the world.
The earliest inventions of science have been referred to as the first technological inventions. They were first published as written down by Christopher Columbus in 1492 in his book ‘The Voyages of Christopher Columbus to Cuba’. Here is what he wrote;
Christopher had observed the sea and other natural features of the coastal areas of Mexico, and at the same time decided to explore the land so that he could study the agricultural practices of Mexico and the trading activities of different foreign countries of the East and Southern continents. After completing his voyage, Christopher returned to England in 1502 and began writing the book ‘The Voyages of Christopher Columbus to America’.
However, Christopher’s attempt to travel to the western hemisphere was never successful as he came back only a few weeks later due to bad weather conditions. Nonetheless the publication of this book marked the advent of communication. This further improved communication between two worlds and this later became known as the age of exploration.
The period between 1500 and 1750 is often called the Age of Exploration. During this era of explorations, explorers used to conduct voyages across oceans and seas of different countries for finding out new things about the other civilizations. For example, Columbus sailed across Atlantic Ocean that can reach the New World while Magellan sailed from Hispaniola towards West Indies. Such discoveries have left a great impact on our society for decades.
A big discovery of science and technology that did not receive any credit or honor has been invented in 1825 by William Henry Holland. He was born in 1783 and was a mathematician who studied mathematics, physics, and sciences. His main focus was mathematical field of studies, and his work came to be regarded as highly significant.
Holland was interested in military aspects of naval battles and his contributions to naval warfare were of importance to the British Navy of then. Even though his contribution was brilliant, it took till 1743 for him to publish it.
As it was against the rule of law to write in English, his invention was never given proper recognition as he wrote in Latin. Today, his invention remains unsurpassed and his works have continued being appreciated all over the world. Some famous examples include;
Holland’s theory of electricity. He came up with a theory of light and motion and proved that moving objects emit electric signals (see diagram) through them in order to be moved. His work came to be appreciated in Europe when he tried to explain how magnetism takes place.
He formulated the notion of electromagnetic induction as he conducted experiments in 1676. The experiment showed that, when iron rods are placed near each other, a magnetic force develops between them, attracting the rod by increasing its strength. The effect on iron rod was that it got heated, and a copper wire got stuck in it, making it a little less magnetic.
By comparing the results of the experiment with those of observations made by Galileo and Newton, he showed that electrons do not flow only through matter as he found out in his own experiments. According to Holland, a substance is said to undergo the process of electricity if when it is hit by electrons from another material in such a way that it becomes highly energized and it resists the flow of water through it.
Thus the term Electromagnetism came up in reference to his works but the concept was unknown to others.
Robert Fulton who was a Scottish scientist and inventor is well-known for his discoveries as he developed the steam engine. He spent four years of experimenting in his house on how he could use fire power for making steam engines at night. After spending long days watching nature, he decided to make machines that would burn oil and would supply energy to ships, trains and homes. He conducted the experiments on his own using wood and charcoal as his raw materials. On April 17, 1780, Robert Fulton was killed by coal gas, where he had built some working models of machines made of wood and charcoal.
Although this invention did not last throughout its life span and is considered a breakthrough inventions, it is important to mention that he contributed immensely towards the development of railways. This invention came from three sources.
Firstly, he was inspired by seeing animals running and jumping about in the marshes which inspired him. Secondly, when he did not pay much attention to his wife Elizabeth, his interest got increased to watch the marsh grass grow, and he saw the marshes full of life.
Lastly, when he heard of a large train leaving the shores he started building a device named a flying machine to move fast. This invention was very useful for railway workers because, according to him, it made movement easier and safer. Apart from this, it also enabled him to save money and time spent traveling.
Therefore, when compared with cars, horse-drawn vehicles used less fuel and therefore they saved a lot of money. Apart from this innovation, Rockefeller came up with ideas regarding communication and finance. The main idea behind his inventions was to increase financial prosperity and economic growth in various nations.
The United States was one country which benefited greatly from Rockefeller’s idea of banking. At that time, there were huge economic depressions due to high inflation rates and the lack of resources.
To improve the economic condition in the country, Americans borrowed money. They paid money to banks in order that they could earn extra income. Since then, most of the banks have become larger and more efficient. With the introduction of stock market, the American economy has benefitted greatly and it is now the second largest economic power in the world.
Apart from these inventions, several inventions that have made a huge contribution in making our everyday life more comfortable and comfortable are mentioned below.
The telephone
The invention of the phone can be seen as an essential invention in the history of modern civilization. Before the year 1800, the voice of man was unheard and only a single individual or certain elite could speak with the other person in a conversation. One of the ways that man managed to communicate was by sending messages.
Humans who lived before 1800 have used the spoken words in conversations. Nowadays, the talk about the phone can be heard by anyone with just an imagination. In the 18th century, a physicist named Samuel Morse carried out experiments with telegraph wires to give him the idea to make the first prototype of telegraph system.
The first attempts to build a functional telegraph system were made in 1861 by Alexander Graham Bell. Many changes took place during this period as people started getting excited rather than concerned about their physical survival and safety. In 1866 a scientist Michael Faraday gave a demonstration of telegraph relay.
In 1877, Marconi came up with the first wireless system using telegraph and his design of radio antennas that could be fixed in buildings. Similarly there was a proposal of transmitting signals between distant places. People used this technology to send letters, pictures, and even documents between faraway locations. Due to the advancement of technology that came after 1800, the speed of communication was increased by leaps and bounds. With these advancements, the speed of communication increased to the extent of the whole world.
Other means of communication that were available at that time included use of postal mail, telegraph, and telegraph. All these combined together with other technologies made the world a global village because of convenience and ease of communication. More landlines and wire connections were added to this system in order to ensure that everyone can be connected using them.
The invention of television
The invention of TV by Thomas Edison comes in second place in history as it helps people to learn about the happenings around the world.
Like the telegraph, the invention of radio was very beneficial to the users in terms of distance and distance learning.
A good example of the invention of telegraph is the communication of French engineer Raymond Pissier with the Japanese official Chiang Kai-shek.
From this point onwards, the German government started accepting telegraph records and telephones got introduced to France. Also the discovery of phonograph which is used to convert audible sound into electrical sound is very helpful in teaching students and teachers. Another important invention of this invention is the discovery of photography.
The invention of photograph helped people of different ages, cultures in understanding different concepts of the world.
The invention of automobile
As earlier stated the invention of the automobile is a remarkable invention that makes people live comfortably and comfortable.
An internal combustion engine power vehicle that used to run or fly was the original invention of Karl Friedrich Herrmann before his death in 1886. According to his idea the engine that runs a car can be compared to an elephant which is able to carry loads of loads of different weights and shapes.
As per his suggestion animals could do some simple thing in order to accomplish tasks that are dangerous for humans. Although he didn't invent the motor that drives the wheels of the car, he was extremely creative in providing for the engine as well as the mechanical device that keeps the wheel spinning. Most of the automobiles used in the present day are powered by internal combustion engine because of their efficiency and other benefits that come along with it.
A typical car consists of a chassis, transmission system, powertrain, exhaust system, and motor that operates the engine.
is the more advancement of technology.
These are all worthy and helpful for human being technology inventions.
